BIOGRAFIA:
Attore statunitense. Interprete di straordinario carisma, spesso alle prese con personaggi psicologicamente intensi e tormentati, debutta nel 1971 in I visitatori di E. Kazan; seguono numerosi ruoli secondari tra i quali spiccano quelli in Bersaglio di notte (1975) di A. Penn e I ragazzi del coro (1977) di R. Aldrich. Dopo Il campo di cipolle (1979) di H. Becker, si impone prepotentemente come allucinato mattatore di Videodrome (1983) di D. Cronenberg, profetico sguardo sui rapporti fra violenza e televisione, logiche dello sguardo e deliri della tecnologia. Nel 1984 è, insieme a R. De Niro, protagonista dello straordinario C’era una volta in America (1984) di S. Leone, mentre nel 1986 è memorabile in Salvador di O. Stone. Attore emozionalmente poliedrico, ottiene un notevole successo con Verdetto finale (1989) di J. Ruben e negli anni ’90 spiccano i ruoli da protagonista in Killer - Diario di un assassino (1996) di T. Metcalfe e Vampires (1998) di J. Carpenter. Eccellente la sua interpretazione del padre delle sorelle Lisbon in Il giardino delle vergini suicide (1999) di S. Coppola.
